I know we are all on different schedules in terms of when our classes end. My classes end on June 4, and I am certainly ready to end the year and relax a bit.
I am writing this quick post just to share information about a truly terrific summer workshop for world language teachers – this year in my home-state of Ohio. The CI Summit will be in downtown CInCInnati from July 15-17 and it is really like a language camp for world language teachers, who want to learn and share more about teaching to help students acquire language while they build their proficiency. (Bonus I love being in downtown Cincinnati over the summer (any other former AP language readers out there with me?)
As I was just talking about being ready to relax, I know that by July 15, I will be ready to go back to the flowing waters of professional development to be replenished with the flow of ideas from others. I stress I’ll be ready mid July because at this point in the school year, I am not at a point where I am ready to learn much right now; I, like my students, am drained both mentally and physically.
But the CI Summit is a great in-person conference that goes over the fundamentals of teaching for language acquisition and working with today’s students in mind. The training gives teachers the opportunity
-to practice acquisition driven instruction strategies with a cohort of teachers
-to learn another language while experiencing the implementation of the strategies (this year Arabic, German, Latin, or Mandarin)
-to see how all of the strategies can work together to build lessons and unit plans
&
-to enjoy evening activities with an adult camp-vibe that embraces the idea of the importance of our WL community and supporting each other.
I have the great opportunity to be on the planning team for the CI Summit and will be the Squad Captain for the Level 1 experience. Please consider joining me and/or sharing this with others who might benefit. The conference organizers have shared this $100-off discount with me to share with you all. Use the code: TEAM when registering.
For more information check out the CI Summit website and if you have any questions, please reach out to me. CI Summit: https://cisummit.live/register.php
Cheers to either being finished with the school year or charging through the last few weeks like I am (I think we can. I think we can. I think we can.)
